LAGOS: Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has addressed the controversy surrounding her recent statement suggesting she might consider becoming a second wife.
The award-winning artist, known for her honesty and emotional depth, explained that the comment was made during a vulnerable moment and not an expression of her true desire for polygamy.
Speaking candidly about her past experiences, Tiwa said her remarks were born out of frustration from heartbreaks and failed relationships.
I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife, but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife, she said.
The 45-year-old singer revealed that her emotional scars often influence her public statements, noting that her marriage experiences have shaped how she views love and commitment.
Despite the widespread social media debate, Tiwa clarified that she does not truly desire to be a second wife.
It’s not my choice. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged,” she said.
Her earlier comment, which she made during a chat on the American podcast Lip Service, had gone viral after she discussed love, marriage, and respect in relationships.
During the podcast, Tiwa admitted that most of the men who approach her are either older or already married sparking further conversations online.
Fans have since taken to social media to share mixed reactions, with some expressing empathy for her while others criticized her remarks.
