ABAKILIKI: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared his resolve to ensure that Abia State is delivered to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The Abia North lawmaker made the statement during his annual New Year visit to the Ebonyi State APC chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The former Abia State governor said he would deploy all political resources at his disposal to wrest control of the state from the Labour Party in the next election cycle.
I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate. I will put my heart on the field to ensure a landslide victory for the APC in Abia, Kalu said.
While acknowledging his personal relationship with the incumbent Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti, Kalu stressed that friendship would not interfere with his political objective.
Governor Alex Otti is my friend, but politics is not about friendship. It is about total victory for the APC, he added.
Kalu also urged state governors to take greater responsibility for security in their states instead of placing the burden solely on President Tinubu. He recalled that Abia enjoyed relative peace during his tenure as governor.
“When I was governor, there were no kidnapping cases or major security challenges in Abia, even when other states were battling insecurity,” he said.
He praised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru for maintaining peace and stability in the state and urged other governors to emulate his leadership style.
Explaining the reason for his annual New Year visit, Kalu described Okoro-Emegha as a loyal and trustworthy ally, revealing that he had known and mentored him from a young age.
“He is someone you can trust with your life. I raised him and he was part of the success stories of my time as governor, Kalu said.
He added that when he introduced Okoro-Emegha to former Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, he advised him to remain absolutely loyal to his principal a value he said the APC chairman has continued to uphold.
Kalu’s remarks signal renewed efforts by the APC to strengthen its political foothold in the South-East ahead of the 2027 general elections.
