Guinness World Records had earlier cheered the chef on during her attempt, reposting a video from the event and writing: What’s cooking’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.
This marks yet another milestone for Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 when she shattered the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, clocking over 93 hours in Lagos.
Baci launched her latest challenge at the Eko Hotel and Suites, where she unveiled a specially designed pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres.
Before the event, she explained that her target was to fill the pot up to 80 percent, which required about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice approximately 264 bags.
However, she later revealed that she used 200 bags, as the weighing crane and scale could only accommodate up to 20,000 kilogrammes, including the pot itself.
The goal was that by the time I was done making 5,000 kilogrammes, I was hoping to achieve about 17,000 to 18,000 kilogrammes. Right now, if I include the weight of the pot, that’s about 20,000.”
The event drew a massive crowd of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries, creating a carnival-like atmosphere filled with music, dance, and cheer. Nollywood actress Funke Akindele took to the stage to praise Baci’s resilience before joining her at the cooking station to stir the tomato base.
Also present was Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State, who lent her support. Other notable faces included dancer Kaffy, media personality Tomike Adeoye, influencer Enioluwa, designer Veekee James, singer Spyro, and reality TV star Alex Unusual, among others.
Hilda Baci’s culinary triumphs continue to inspire young Nigerians, particularly women, to explore opportunities in the food industry.
Her journey from the 2023 cook-a-thon to this latest Guinness World Record underscores her determination, creativity, and role as a cultural ambassador for Nigerian cuisine.
