PARIS: Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, is preparing to present photographic evidence in a U.S.
court to prove she is a woman, following allegations made by American right-wing commentator Candace Owens.
The move comes as part of a defamation lawsuit the French First Lady and her husband filed in July, accusing Owens of spreading outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions that fueled a campaign of global humiliation” and relentless bullying.
Tom Clare, lead counsel for the Macrons, revealed on the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast that the couple would present evidence generically and specifically to counter Owens’ claims.
While declining to give full details, Clare said the case would rely on expert testimony that would be scientific in nature.
When asked whether the photographs would include images of Mrs. Macron during pregnancy, Clare refused to elaborate but confirmed they would be presented in court.
Clare described Owens’ remarks as extremely upsetting for the Macrons, noting the toll such accusations have taken.
It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself to putting this type of proof forward, he said.
But Mrs. Macron is willing to do what it takes to set the record straight even in a very public way.
He added that while the controversy has been a distraction, it has not derailed President Macron’s leadership.
He’s not immune to the hurt because he’s the president of a country, Clare said, but I don’t want to suggest it has thrown him off his game.
The case underscores how deeply personal and invasive conspiracy theories can become, even for public figures at the highest levels of global politics.
