AWKA: The former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, C-Don Adinuba, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting that former Governor Willie Obiano has died.
Reports had claimed that Obiano, who governed Anambra State between 2014 and 2022, passed away in London. But Adinuba, speaking in a telephone interview on Friday, described the rumours as false, provocative, and completely unfounded.
According to him, the former governor is “hale and hearty” and currently residing in Houston, Texas, with his family.
I have received several probing questions from journalists and even heard a provocative rumour claiming that former Governor Willie Obiano is dead.
The rumour is not true. I just spoke with him and members of his family a few minutes ago, Adinuba said.
Contrary to the reports, he is not in London, he is not hospitalised, and he is very much alive. Please ignore the rumour it is fake news.
Obiano’s personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, also told our correspondent that he had no information confirming the claims, saying: I can’t confirm this; I am not aware of such news.
Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. He succeeded Peter Obi as governor in 2014 and handed over to the incumbent, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, in March 2022.
He is currently facing an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations involving N4 billion.
