ASABA: The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed the arrest and prosecution of anyone found in possession of fireworks.
The ban, which covers the use, sale, and display of pyrotechnics including firecrackers known as knock-out and banger, remains strictly in force.
Speaking in Asaba, the state capital, CP Abaniwonda explained that the measure is part of ongoing efforts to prevent crime during the festive season, noting that fireworks could be exploited by criminal elements to terrorize residents.
He warned that violators will face arrest, prosecution, and confiscation of their goods.
Parents and guardians were also urged to caution their children against using fireworks, while retailers were warned to cease selling the items immediately.
To this end, I have directed DCP Operations, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to ensure strict compliance and take action against any violations within their respective jurisdictions, the CP said.
Abaniwonda further expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Deltans in upholding the ban and encouraged citizens to report any incidents involving fireworks to the nearest police station.
