AGBOR: Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have foiled an attempted hostel robbery in Agbor and recovered firearms and ammunition from suspected criminal elements in separate security operations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists, noting that the operations underscore the command’s renewed commitment to proactive crime prevention and intelligence-driven policing.
Edafe, a Superintendent of Police, explained that the breakthrough followed the transfer of a suspected criminal by the Divisional Police Officer of Ororokpe Division to operatives of the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson.
During interrogation, the suspect identified as Dafiaga Timothy, 25, from Effurun community in Uvwie Local Government Area, allegedly confessed to being a member of a syndicate responsible for attacks on commuters and residents along the Warri–Sapele Road axis.
Acting on information provided by the suspect at about 5:30 a.m. on February 19, 2026, police operatives reportedly stormed a concealed armoury located along the Sapele–Warri Road near Adheje community.
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of a locally made long gun, a cut-to-size firearm, and a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. Officers also recovered ten live cartridges and a dagger believed to be used by the criminal gang.
Police authorities stated that the recovery significantly weakened the operational capacity of the suspected syndicate, adding that investigations are ongoing.
In another operation carried out on February 18, 2026, operatives attached to the Warri Area Command intercepted a blue tricycle along the Agbarho–Warri Expressway conveying three occupants.
According to the police, two of the suspects fled into a nearby bush upon interception, while the driver, identified as Aliyu Sabo, 25, was arrested. A search of the tricycle reportedly led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.
Other items recovered include mobile phones, a Zealot MP3 player, a face mask, and a black bag. The suspect remains in police custody as efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
Meanwhile, police operatives also foiled an attempted robbery at Texas Lodge Hostel in Alihame community, Agbor, following a distress call received at about 4 a.m. on the same day.
The Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Division, CSP Micheal Obekpa, reportedly led an anti-crime patrol team to the scene, forcing the hoodlums to flee into surrounding bushes upon sighting the police.
A combing operation conducted in the area resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, an expended cartridge, three mobile phones, an earpod, and a power bank abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended officers for their vigilance and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks, mop up illegal firearms, and ensure perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice, while urging residents to remain security conscious and provide timely information to security agencies.
