Delta In Mourning As Elumelu Family Loses Patriarch, Ex-Deputy Governor Elue Dies

ASABA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended heartfelt condolences to prominent businessman, Mr. Tony Elumelu, and his wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu, following the death of their patriarch, Chief Israel Ogbue, even as the state also mourns the passing of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue.

Chief Ogbue, a former Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), died at the age of 99 after a lifetime distinguished by service, humility, and commitment to humanity.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described the late elder statesman as a man whose kindness, generosity, and strong family values positively impacted many lives.

The governor noted that Chief Ogbue exemplified the virtues of a devoted husband, loving father, and respected grandfather, adding that his philanthropic disposition earned him admiration far beyond his immediate community.

He urged the Elumelu family and the people of Onicha-Olona to take solace in the remarkable legacy left behind by the nonagenarian, while praying for divine comfort and eternal rest for his soul.

Meanwhile, Delta State has also been thrown into mourning following the death of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 85 after a brief illness.

Elue served as Deputy Governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007 under former Governor James Ibori, playing a significant role in the state’s early democratic governance following Nigeria’s return to civilian rule.

Born in 1940, the late politician, educator, and entrepreneur would have turned 86 in June this year.

Governor Oborevwori, political leaders, and stakeholders across the state have continued to pay tribute to Elue, describing him as a disciplined public servant whose integrity and dedication contributed immensely to Delta State’s political and administrative development.

The governor expressed gratitude to God for the impactful lives both deceased leaders lived, noting that their legacies of service, leadership, and community development would remain enduring sources of inspiration.

He prayed for strength for the bereaved families and eternal peace for the departed souls.
