The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The development was disclosed by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yelwata, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, December 18.
According to Yelwata, Governor Mutfwang’s alleged move to the APC marks another major political shift, bringing the number of governors said to have defected from the PDP to the ruling party to seven.
The announcement comes amid previous denials by Governor Mutfwang, who had consistently dismissed claims that he was planning to dump the PDP for the APC.
Details surrounding the reported defection were not immediately provided, as neither the Plateau State Government nor the PDP had officially reacted to the APC’s claim as of the time of filing this report.
The development is expected to further reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties intensify strategic realignments across the country.
