Benue Govt Probes Viral Video of Musician Performing ‘Indecent’ Song Before School Pupils

MAKURDI: The Benue State Bureau for Education Quality Assurance (BEQA) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a local musician, identified as Egyptian Cairo, performing a song with indecent lyrics before underage pupils at a school in the state.

According to reports, the performance which allegedly contained vulgar and inappropriate content sparked widespread public outrage and condemnation from parents and community leaders, who described the act as morally unacceptable and called for sanctions against those responsible.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Director General of BEQA, Dr. Terna Francis, confirmed that preliminary investigations traced the incident to Foundation College, Abeda Shitile, located in Logo Local Government Area.

Dr. Francis described the performance as a serious violation of ethical and moral standards expected within academic environments, stressing that such acts undermine the principles of quality education.

While we acknowledge the importance of holistic education across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains including creative expressions such as music vulgarity, indecency, and immorality have no place in our schools and will not be tolerated under any guise,” he stated.

He urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that a full-scale investigation is ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the event.

Dr. Francis added that BEQA’s findings will be forwarded to the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management for appropriate administrative action.

He reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to promoting moral discipline and academic excellence in all Benue schools, in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision for a value-driven education system.
