ADC Declares Pat Utomi Recognised Leader of Delta Coalition

ASABA: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has publicly clarified the leadership structure of its political coalition, affirming that renowned economist and political figure Pat Utomi remains the duly recognised leader of the coalition in the state.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on March 25, 2026, and signed by the Delta State Chairman of the party, Austin Okolie.

According to the party leadership, the notice became necessary to address growing concerns and confusion among party members, coalition partners and the general public regarding the leadership of the ADC-led coalition in the state.

In the statement, the party emphasized that Professor Utomi occupies the position of coalition leader in Delta State and remains the recognised figure coordinating the party’s political engagements within the state.

For the avoidance of doubt, Professor Pat Utomi is the duly recognized leader of the Delta State Coalition, the statement noted.

Utomi, a respected political economist, previously served as the presidential candidate of the ADC during the 2007 general election and has remained an influential voice in Nigeria’s political and economic discourse.

While addressing speculations within political circles, the party also acknowledged the political relevance of veteran politician Great Ogboru.

The ADC described Ogboru as a respected and prominent political leader in Delta State and an important figure within the broader coalition framework.

However, the party clarified that despite his influence and contributions to opposition politics in the state, Ogboru does not occupy the position of coalition leader.

Highlighting Utomi’s credentials, the statement pointed out that he previously served as an adviser to former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari in 1983.

It also referenced his experience in various high-level executive roles within the Federal Government of Nigeria, which the party said further reinforces his leadership capacity within the coalition.

According to the ADC, Utomi’s political experience and intellectual background make him well positioned to guide the party’s strategy and coalition activities in Delta State.

The party called on members, stakeholders and coalition partners to take note of the clarification and ensure that all official communications and engagements reflect Utomi’s recognised leadership role.

ADC leadership stressed that maintaining clarity in its organisational structure is necessary to strengthen internal unity and improve coordination among coalition members.

The statement also informed the public that the official state office of the party is located at No. 1 Midwifery Market Road, Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.

Political observers say the clarification may be part of efforts by the ADC to consolidate its internal structure as opposition parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In recent months, the party has been at the centre of discussions surrounding a potential opposition coalition aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the national level
