2027 Election: Bayelsa APC Endorses Tinubu Amid Absence of Key Party Figures

YENAGUA: The Bayelsa State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, declaring that his re-election in 2027 is non-negotiable.

The endorsement was made on Tuesday, September 9, during the party’s 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa.

Party leaders, members of the state’s APC National Working Committee (NWC), and representatives from the national secretariat attended the meeting, led by the deputy national chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, who stood in for national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Ambassador Philip Ikrusi moved the motion for Tinubu’s endorsement, which was seconded by former House of Representatives member, Preye Oseke.

I raise this motion in recognition of the outstanding leadership and vision that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated since assuming office in 2023, Ikrusi said.

The party vowed to mobilise its members, structures, and resources across all wards and local governments in Bayelsa to ensure Tinubu’s resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.

However, the absence of two major figures in Bayelsa APC Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and the party’s 2019 governorship candidate, Chief David Lyon raised concerns about the state chapter’s unity.

Former governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, expressed disappointment at their absence.

He noted that their participation would have signaled a stronger, united front before the visiting NWC officials.

The only thing we are lacking is the support of the national leadership. If we have the support, this party is stronger than any other party in the state,” Sylva said.

Despite the missing heavyweights, Bayelsa APC leaders-maintained confidence that the party is well-positioned to deliver massive support for Tinubu in the next election.
