PORTHARCOURT: Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has categorically dismissed growing claims that he may serve as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
The clarification followed comments by media entrepreneur Dele Momodu, who suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could consider Amaechi as a running mate if Peter Obi declines a joint ticket.
Responding through his media aide, David Iyofor, Amaechi stated unequivocally that he is focused solely on becoming President of Nigeria and has no intention of playing second fiddle to any candidate.
Iyofor stressed that Amaechi is not in any alliance discussions and will not accept a VP slot under any political arrangement.
He further noted that Amaechi strongly believes the South should produce the country’s next President and is actively pursuing the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 race.
Amaechi, who previously contested the APC presidential primary in 2023 before defecting to the ADC, has maintained that his ambition remains unchanged he is running to lead the nation, not to deputise for anyone.
