The Super Eagles of Nigeria have booked their place in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night.
The Group-stage encounter, played at the Fez Stadium, saw Nigeria dominate large spells of the game, with goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman sealing the crucial win.
Osimhen opened the scoring just before halftime in the 44th minute, calmly finishing a well-delivered cross from Lookman.
Shortly after the break, team captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 50th minute, once again benefitting from Lookman’s creativity.
The Super Eagles extended their lead in the 70th minute when Lookman got his name on the scoresheet, converting a fine assist from Osimhen to make it 3–0.
Tunisia, however, fought back late in the game. Defender Montassar Talbi pulled one back before Ali Al-Abdi converted a late penalty, setting up a tense finish. Despite the pressure, Nigeria held on to secure maximum points.
The victory gives Nigeria six points from two matches, confirming their qualification for the knockout stage, while Tunisia remains on three points and must now fight for progression in their remaining fixtures.
Nigeria’s attacking display and composure in front of goal continue to boost confidence as the Super Eagles push deeper into the tournament.
