The Godswill Akpabio led Senate on Wednesday sacked Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC) Borno South as the Chief Whip of the senate and replaced him with Senator Tahir Monguno.(APC) Borno North.
Senator Alli Ndume’s removal by the Senate followed a directive issued to that effect in a letter written by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Umar Ganduje and National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola.
recalls that Ndume came under attacks from both the Presidency and ruling APC following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s style of leadership against the backdrop of the prevailing state of the nation.
The development followed the earlier demand by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to Senator Ndume to resign position as Principal Officer of the 10th Senate.
The request to remove Senator Alli Ndume was put to voice votes by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and it was loudly affirmed by all the APC senators.
The content of the letter read by the senate president in the floor of the senate accused senator Alli Ndume of making hurtful comments against the administration of President Bola Tinubu
The letter read in part, “You have been making uncouth and rabid outbursts against the government before the international community which is not only harmful to the government’s image but its effort to bring in Foreign Direct Investments.
We are of the opinion that Mohammed Tahir Monguno should immediately replace Senator Ali Ndume who is bent on bringing down the country as the majority whip of the senate.”
Ndume was stripped of both his seat as a principal officer and appropriation committee vice chairman. Akpabio then announced him as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism.
Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, senator representing Ondo Central, was named the new chair of judiciary and legal matters instead of senator Tahir Mongunu.
It would be recalled that in the eight Senate under the leadership of Bukola Saraki, in January 2017, Ndume was also sacked from his position as the Senate leader.
