LAGOS: Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially launched the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area. This project aims to enhance mass transportation and improve connectivity across the state.

During the inauguration, the governor also announced a 30 percent fare reduction for the newly introduced Red Line rail service, aiming to make transportation more affordable for Lagosians.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of the new bus terminal in easing mobility for local residents. Today, I commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which is designed to improve seamless mass transportation from this suburb to other areas of the city,” he said.

The governor highlighted that the terminal’s strategic location near the Lagos Red Line corridor will offer passengers a smooth transfer between buses and other modes of transport.

“This bus terminal is strategically located near the Lagos Red Line, making it easier for passengers to board and alight buses while easily connecting to other transportation options,” he explained.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s ongoing commitment to modernizing Lagos’ transport infrastructure to enhance the daily commuting experience for residents. “This project is another important milestone in our efforts to modernize Lagos’ public transportation system with sustainable infrastructure that meets the needs of our people, he said.

The governor also emphasized the broader vision of his administration to boost urban mobility and economic growth through an integrated transport system. “Our goal is to improve mobility and stimulate urban and economic development through interconnected transportation networks, offering residents various commuting options by rail, water, or land, he added.

In a bid to make transportation more affordable, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a fare reduction for the newly launched Red Line rail service. “I’m pleased to announce a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line, bringing the fare down from N1,500 to N1,000,he revealed.

The governor further disclosed that new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses are expected to join the fleet by the third quarter of this year, which will help expand capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve the overall service.

He also urged residents to take ownership of public infrastructure and ensure its protection. I encourage residents to take pride in this project, as it has been made possible through your tax contributions. Protect and maintain it, so we can all enjoy its long-term benefits and continue to build a better future for our community,” Sanwo-Olu concluded
