Political Drama? Adaramodu Says Sen. Natasha Uproar Was for Media Attention

Speaking on Politics Today, Senator Adaramodu downplayed the recent controversy in the Senate, dismissing it as mere theatrics designed to attract media attention. He described the incident as a form of “content creation,” suggesting that such occurrences are common in political spaces both within and outside Nigeria.

“That is what happens in any political climate, even beyond Nigeria. There are always minor uproars and disruptions, here and there,” he remarked. “Some people, especially the younger generation, might describe it as ‘catching cruise,’ and I see this situation in a similar light. Perhaps our senator sister was just having her own moment.”

Addressing the seating arrangement issue that led to the dispute, Senator Adaramodu clarified that the Senate has clear rules governing procedural conduct. He emphasized that a senator cannot raise a point of order unless they are properly seated in accordance with the chamber’s standard rules.

“Until you are properly seated, as stated in Order 6-2 and Order 6-B, you cannot make a contribution,” he explained. “Whether it concerns privileges, rights, or any other matter, a senator must be in order before speaking. She was prevented from making a contribution because she did not comply with this rule.

He further explained that when the senator in question persisted in speaking despite being out of order, it became a matter for the presiding officer to address. According to parliamentary procedures, the Senate President has the authority to order a senator out of the session if they fail to adhere to the rules. However, in this instance, fellow senators intervened to prevent such action.

“Instead of the Senate President ordering her out, other senators stepped in and persuaded her to remain in the chamber,” he continued. “In fact, she was even allowed to sit in the wrong seat for the entire session that day, despite the irregularity.
