PDP’s National Secretary Dispute Escalates as BoT Pushes for Ude-Okoye’s Appointment

ENUGU:The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately swear in Sunday Ude-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary, in accordance with the declarative judgment of the Enugu High Court, upheld by the Court of Appeal.

This directive was issued following an emergency meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, emphasized that the board thoroughly considered critical issues within the party before making this decision.

He noted that the board had also reviewed and adopted the recommendations of the committee led by Saminu Turaki, which examined the court judgments concerning the dispute over the national secretary position.

In response, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the incumbent national secretary, dismissed the BoT’s directive, citing ongoing legal proceedings and the expiration of the tenures of about 80% of the BoT members who attended the meeting. He questioned the legitimacy of the BoT’s actions under these circumstances.

The BoT’s decision underscores its commitment to upholding the party’s constitution and the rule of law, aiming to resolve internal disputes in a manner consistent with legal judgments.
