Meet Orode Meyiwa Uduaghan: Former Delta Governor’s Daughter and Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Community

Orode’s professional journey spans multiple sectors, including oil and gas, healthcare, events management, hospitality, education, business consulting, and agriculture. In 2007, she co-founded the Pink Pearl Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancer in Nigeria.

Through extensive outreach programs, the foundation has impacted over 1.4 million women across Africa. Her advocacy efforts earned her the prestigious Future Awards Africa prize for Best Use of Advocacy and Activism in 2013.

Beyond advocacy, Orode has made significant contributions to literature and filmmaking. She authored two books, “ABBA” (2019) and “Mind” (2020). Additionally, her 2013 short film, “Living Funeral,” produced as part of her breast cancer awareness campaign, gained international recognition.

The film was nominated for multiple awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and was recognized by CNN as one of Africa’s most inspiring movies in 2014.

Her dedication to public service led to her appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Small and Medium Enterprise Development by Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in 2021.

She currently serves as the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development in Delta State.

Orode is also a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy practitioner and mental health specialist. She holds certifications in Finance and Public-Private Partnerships, Project Management, Data Science, and Public Health and Policy.

Passionate about women’s empowerment, Orode founded the Rubies Vocational School in 2013 to support female entrepreneurship, training over 1,600 women in various skills.

She also serves as a non-executive director and board member at Master Care International School in Asaba, reflecting her commitment to education.

As a philanthropist, she chairs the Board of Trustees for Dream from the Slum, an NGO focused on improving the well-being of children in underserved communities. Under her leadership, initiatives such as Heart2Feed have provided food to over 18,000 children and families.

She has also spearheaded mentorship programs for young boys and leads Brainy Luminary School, a free educational institution for children in disadvantaged areas. Additionally, she offers scholarships for JAMB and WAEC candidates in her local community.

Her contributions to social causes earned her induction as a Patron of the Hearts of Gold Children Hospice in Lagos in 2010. She also serves as the Licensee and Organizer of TEDx Ogunu Conference in Warri, Delta State.

Orode is the co-founder of Seeds Services Limited, a social impact investment company focused on bridging the financial inclusion gap for women in Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

Politically active, she has been a card-carrying member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since 2014 and expressed interest in representing the Warri North Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly in 2022.

That same year, she was appointed as the Zonal Director of the PDP South-South zone’s female youth wing and played a key role in the Delta State Transition Committee.
