Meet Emmanuel Ogidi: New PDP Caretaker chairman Delta State

ASABA:  Emmanuel Oghenekome Ogidi, the National Vice Chairman of the peoples democratic party (PDP) for the South-South zone, is a seasoned politician and administrator whose influence has significantly shaped political developments in Southern Nigeria.

Born on May 28, 1956, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Mr. Ogidi hails from Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. His remarkable journey through education, public service, and politics has left a lasting impact on his community and the broader Nigerian political landscape.

Mr. Ogidi’s early education began at St. Patrick Primary School, Sapele, where he completed his primary studies in 1967. The following year, he proceeded to St. Malachy’s Secondary School, Sapele, before transferring to Hussey College, Warri, where he completed his secondary education in 1972.

He excelled in the West African School Certificate (WASC) examination, laying a solid academic foundation for future pursuits.

For his tertiary education, he enrolled at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt in 1976. There, he studied Marketing and graduated in 1981 with a Higher National Diploma, distinguishing himself through academic excellence.

Ogidi’s professional journey is marked by versatility and a commitment to public service. He began his career as a schoolteacher under the then Bendel State Education Board in Warri, serving from 1973 to 1976.

He later worked as an audit clerk at the Port Harcourt Refinery from 1977 to 1978. His drive and competence led to various appointments in both the public and private sectors, culminating in a long career that spanned over three decades.

From 1983 to 2016, Ogidi served in multiple roles across the governments of both Rivers and Delta States, making significant contributions in administrative and policy capacities. His extensive experience positioned him as a trusted figure in governance and development initiatives within the Niger Delta region.

A notable highlight of his public service was his appointment as a board member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), where he served from 2009 to 2011, representing Delta State. During his tenure, he advocated for sustainable development and equitable resource distribution for the oil-rich but underdeveloped region.

Politically, Emmanuel Ogidi has long been a central figure in the PDP. He served as the Delta State Chairman of the party from 2005 to 2008, where he played a vital role in strengthening the party’s structures and electoral successes in the state.

In December 2017, during the PDP National Convention held in Abuja, he was elected as the National Vice Chairman for the South-South zone, a role in which he continues to provide strategic leadership and coordination for the party across the region.

His political acumen was on full display during the Rivers State governorship elections, where his experience and leadership helped secure victory for the PDP.

As National Vice Chairman, Ogidi’s dedication to grassroots mobilization and unity within the party has helped maintain the PDP’s stronghold in the South-South.
