ABUJA: Ghana’s newly elected president, John Dramani Mahama, recently visited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. This visit comes shortly after Mahama’s victory in Ghana’s presidential election, marking his return to office after an eight-year hiatus.
Olusegun Dada, Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, shared details of the meeting, confirming that Mahama paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian president at the State House. Dada posted on his X account, alongside photos of the two leaders, noting that the meeting took place on Monday. However, he did not provide further details about the discussions during the visit.
Just days before Mahama’s visit, President Tinubu had extended his congratulations to the Ghanaian leader following his electoral win. Tinubu commended the peaceful elections and called on West African nations to draw lessons from Ghana’s democratic process.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2016, secured 56.55% of the vote in the 2024 election, defeating the incumbent Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.6%. Bawumia has since conceded defeat.
The meeting between Mahama and Tinubu is a symbol of the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations, highlighting the importance of collaboration in West Africa.
