PDP Moves to Stabilise Delta Chapter With New Caretaker Committee

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), acting one authority of the National Executive Committee (NEC), has approved the constitution of a Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the party in Delta State.

The decision, which is in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution, is aimed at stabilizing the party’s structure in the state, addressing internal challenges, and ensuring a smooth transition ahead of forthcoming ward, local government, and state congresses.

According to the party, the caretaker committee has been carefully selected to reflect experience, balance, and broad-based representation across Delta State.

Members are expected to work collectively to strengthen internal cohesion, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, and reposition the party for effective participation in future political activities.

Professor Sylvester Monye was named Chairman of the committee. A respected academic, consultant, and former Presidential Adviser on Performance Monitoring, Prof. Monye is widely regarded for his administrative competence, policy expertise, and deep understanding of Delta State politics.

Party leaders believe his leadership will provide neutrality, strategic direction, and stability during the caretaker period.

Other members of the committee include Ujor Ucheonny, a loyal party stalwart known for his grassroots mobilisation efforts, and Pharm. Victor Ofobrukueta, a seasoned pharmacist and community leader with a strong record in youth development and health advocacy initiatives.

Also appointed is Commodore Johnbull Aghogho Kenairu (Rtd.), a retired naval commander with decades of leadership experience, respected within and outside the party for his discipline, integrity, and organizational skills.

Jackson Agbor, a seasoned party organizer with extensive reach across the three senatorial districts, was also named, bringing valuable experience from previous congress coordination exercises.

Onajega Mike, a grassroots politician and key stakeholder in local government political structures, joins the committee alongside Chief Ekiyor Charles, a prominent Delta political figure known for his experience in mediation and conflict resolution within party cycles.

Honourable Mrs. Vero Egbuna, a former lawmaker and strong advocate for women’s inclusion in politics, was also appointed. She is widely recognized for her contributions to strengthening female participation and representation within the party.

Chukwunonso Alex Ndah, a youth leader with strong administrative capacity and experience in strategic mobilization, represents the party’s youth constituency.

Veteran party elder Walter Uguoye completes the list of members, bringing with him years of experience in party organisation and a reputation for maintaining structure and ensuring compliance with established processes.

Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq., former Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, lawyer, and development advocate, was appointed Secretary of the committee.

His background in governance, administration, and law is expected to play a crucial role in coordinating the committee’s activities and documentation.

The PDP stated that the Delta State Caretaker Committee is mandated to administer the day-to-day affairs of the party in the state, reconcile aggrieved members, and strengthen unity across all levels.

The committee will also be responsible for preparing for and supervising congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels, while ensuring strict adherence to the PDP Constitution (2025), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The NWC congratulated all appointees and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with transparency, fairness, and discipline, stressing that neutrality and unity remain critical as the party transitions towards the emergence of a new executive leadership in Delta State.
