ASABA: The people of Delta State, alongside Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, and members of the academic community, have celebrated the exceptional victory of Delta students who led Nigeria to win the 2025 World School Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Nigeria, represented by a team of students from Delta State, emerged world champions after defeating teams from Chicago, USA, and host nation Qatar. The feat has sparked statewide celebrations, with many praising the students for showcasing Nigeria’s intellectual strength on the global stage.
Speaker Guwor, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, commended the students for their brilliance, discipline, and oratory skill.
He noted that their achievement was a proud moment for all Deltans and a testament to the state’s sustained investment in education.
“Their success is not only a reflection of personal excellence but also a clear endorsement of Delta State’s quality educational system and commitment to youth development,” Guwor said.
Academicians across the state have also applauded the team’s performance, describing it as an inspiration to students nationwide. They highlighted that the victory reaffirms the role of schools and teachers in nurturing global citizens capable of winning on international platforms.
The Speaker congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the entire country on the students’ win, stating that Delta’s sons and daughters had become shining examples of what Nigerian youth can achieve with the right support.
He added that the House of Assembly looks forward to receiving the champions in Delta State as proud ambassadors of excellence and will continue to support education-focused initiatives.

Led by Hon. Samuel Mariere, Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the students secured a 2-1 victory over Qatar in the semi-finals and a 3-0 triumph in the finals bringing home the title with a 5-1 record.
Deltans at home and in the diaspora have flooded social media with messages of congratulations, describing the achievement as historic and uplifting for the state’s image globally.
