The Delta State Government budget document has revealed that N9.9 billion was set up for the purchasing of 50 Toyota SUVs, 60 Hilux pickup trucks, 150 Toyota Corollas, and 10 Coaster buses.
A careful review of the State budget performance documents shows that N6.8 billion was spent on car purchases in just three months. The expenditures were paid for in the first quarter of 2024.
The budget document indicates that N9.9 billion was set up for the acquisition of 50 Toyota SUVs, 60 Hilux pickup trucks, 150 Toyota Corollas, and 10 Coaster buses.
The document also state that out of the budgeted amount, the state already spent N6.8 billion in the first three months of the year.
The money is more than the state’s capital expenditure for its ministry of energy (N2.8 billion) in the first three months of 2024.
It exceed the state’s capital expenditures for the housing sector by N1.8 billion, N16 million for water resources, N201 million for trade and investment, N400.1 million for primary education ministry capital expenditures, and N667.9 million for secondary education ministry capital expenditures.
The amount that was spent on the cars exceeded the N1 billion in capital expenditures the state had made on its health sector as of the first quarter of 2024.
For the first three months of 2024, the total investment expenditure for the aforementioned sectors amounted to N6.8 billion, which is the same amount that was spent on car purchases during the same period.
The news correlates with Delta’s financial challenges and demands for a reduction in the cost of governance.
