ASABA: Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori on Thursday signed seven major bills into law, notably the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, which he described as a “game-changer” for the state’s industrial development.

Governor Oborevwori praised the Delta State House of Assembly for its proactive legislative work, stating the bills address critical development and social welfare issues aligned with the state’s MORE Agenda.
“These laws are crucial steps toward progress, especially the Power Sector Law, which gives me great joy. It lays the foundation for increased investments in power generation, transmission, and distribution,” the governor said.

With this legal framework and our growing population, Delta is now positioned as a prime destination for investors.”
He emphasized that a reliable power supply is essential to economic growth and investment, adding, “You can’t do any business without power.”
The governor noted that the Child Rights (Amendment) Law strengthens protections for children, prohibiting child labor in domestic settings outside the family home.
The law also establishes an Adoption Service Department within the Ministry of Women Affairs to streamline adoption processes and protect children’s rights.
“These laws are designed to uplift vulnerable populations, protect the environment, attract investments, and enhance our internally generated revenue,” he said.
“The next step is to ensure effective implementation. I urge all stakeholders to collaborate in making these laws impactful.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor presented the bills for assent and commended the governor for the state’s ongoing infrastructure projects.
He highlighted that public input was incorporated through memoranda submitted during legislative hearings, reflecting the voice of Deltans in the new laws.
