IBADAN : The Executive Governor of Oyo State , Seyi Makinde will today, Friday, present staff of office to the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at a coronation ceremony to be held at the historical Mapo hall, Ibadan.
The traditional event is expected to be attended by foremost traditional rulers, top public office holders, the crème-de-la-crème in the society and personalities from all walks of life.
The ceremony is sequel to the Governor’s approval of Olakulehin’s nomination by the Olubadan-in-council, in accordance with the powers conferred on the Governor by section 19 (Cap 28) Law of Oyo State 2000 (as amended).
The Olubadan stool has been vacant since the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun died on March 14, 2024.
Once Oba Olakulehin has completed the customary procedures and been crowned by the Oluwo Afobaje of Ibadan land, he is scheduled to undertake the arduous custom of walking from Ose Meji shrine to Mapo hall.
Olakunlehin and the Okugbaja family in Ita Baale Olugbode have been waiting for one of their own to ascend to the top of the Olubadan chieftaincy ladder for 41 years, but today’s coronation puts an end to their wait.
The Egbe Agba (civil) and Balogun (military) are the two governing families of Olubadan.
Olakulehin hails from the reigning line of Balogun.
Every Olubadan starting at Mogaji must scale a ladder with 22 or 23 rungs, based on their ascending line.
