Benue Massacre: Sen David Mark Warns of Coordinated Violence, Urges Vigilance

MAKURDI: Former Senate President, David Mark, has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence in Otukpo and Ado Local Government Areas of Benue State, where at least 15 people were killed on Tuesday night.

The attacks, which took place in the Otobi-Akpa and Emichi communities in Otukpo LGA, and Utonkon in Ado LGA, were described by Mark as “one too many.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Paul Mumeh, Mark said: This is no longer a random occurrence. It appears to be an organised, premeditated onslaught. We cannot continue to sit back and watch our people being slaughtered for no reason.”

He called on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to prevent further bloodshed and restore order. Mark also urged communities to establish vigilance groups for self-defense, stressing the urgent need for proactive local security.

While encouraging the people of Benue to remain hospitable, he cautioned them to stay vigilant and distinguish between genuine residents and those with harmful intentions.

He offered his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of the deceased, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.

This statement follows a similar one he issued earlier in the month, warning against retaliatory attacks after a previous wave of violence in the state.
