ABUJA: Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, head of the Nigerian Army recruitment Sensitisation Team in Anambra, has raised concerns over the low turnout of South-East youths for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment. According to him, only 200 youths from the region have registered, compared to over 4,000 in some other areas.
Speaking at a sensitisation meeting with youth leaders and community President-Generals in the state, Ekeator emphasised the need for urgent community mobilisation. We need to encourage our youth to participate. This exercise is vital not just for individual opportunities, but also to ensure the South-East is adequately represented in the military,” he said.
To support the campaign, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghambah, pledged the government’s commitment to raising awareness.
He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to mobilise at least 10 youths from each community to take part in the recruitment.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, reminded attendees that the recruitment targets youths between 18 and 22 years of age, encouraging eligible individuals to seize the opportunity.
