15 Killed In Bandits’ Attack On Kebbi Community

KEBBI: The recent wave of attacks in the northern regions of Nigeria has tragically claimed the lives of many innocent people, as seen in the latest assault on the Mera community in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack, which resulted in the death of 15 residents, underscores the escalating insecurity that continues to plague various parts of the country, particularly the northern states.

In the case of Mera, the Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Umar Tafida, visited the community to express condolences and reassure citizens that the state government remains committed to ensuring their safety.

Tafida also reiterated the government’s resolve to work closely with security agencies to bring those responsible for the attack to justice and prevent future occurrences. The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, similarly offered his sympathies, calling for unity and resilience among the people.

This attack follows a series of similar violent incidents in northern Nigeria. In Katsina State, for instance, two security personnel were killed in an encounter with armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area on Friday.

The assailants launched attacks in several quarters of the town, resulting in casualties and injuries. Despite the intense assault, a joint security response involving the police, military, and local vigilantes managed to repel the attackers after a gun battle that lasted more than an hour.

The quick intervention of the security team not only forced the bandits to retreat but also led to the rescue of 16 victims who had been trapped during the assault.

These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by northern Nigeria, where banditry and violent attacks by armed groups continue to disrupt communities and cause widespread fear and suffering.

The efforts of the state governments, security agencies, and local vigilantes remain critical in addressing these threats, but the situation demands sustained attention and stronger measures to ensure lasting peace and safety for the citizens.
