An Ethiopian woman, Bedriya Adem, has given birth to quintuplets after spending 12 years trying to have a child.
The 35-year-old delivered four boys and a girl through a cesarean section on Tuesday, May 5, at Hiwot Fana Specialized Hospital, according to reports by the BBC.
The babies, who were all said to be in good health, have been named Naif, Ammar, Munzir, Nazira and Ansar.
Speaking after the delivery, Adem expressed overwhelming joy at finally becoming a mother after more than a decade of waiting.
I cannot express my happiness in words, she said.
I prayed for just one child, and Allah gave me five.
The first-time mother added that she and her husband were overjoyed to welcome five children at once after years of hoping and praying for a baby.
Medical experts say the natural conception of quintuplets is extremely rare, with estimates placing the odds at about one in 55 million pregnancies.
Medical director of the hospital, Mohamed Nur Abdulahi, disclosed that Adem conceived naturally without the aid of in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
According to him, the newborns currently weigh between 2.8 pounds and 3 pounds and are still receiving medical care at the hospital, though doctors are optimistic about their survival and development.
Adem also revealed that she endured years of emotional pain and constant prayers while hoping to become a mother. Her husband already has a child from a previous marriage who lives with the family.
The remarkable birth has drawn widespread attention and celebration online, with many describing it as a rare blessing and a testament to perseverance and faith.
