Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh has clarified misconceptions surrounding her Christian faith journey, revealing that she developed a relationship with God at the age of 17, long before becoming publicly involved in Christian ministry.
The actress made the clarification during an interview on Real Talk With Kike, where she explained that many people had wrongly assumed that her spiritual journey began when she started speaking publicly about Christianity and sharing her religious experiences.
According to Dikeh, her decision to openly embrace and promote her faith in recent years should not be mistaken for the beginning of her relationship with God.
There’s a very big misconception about when I came out to when I gave my life to Christ,” she said.
She maintained that she had known God since she was 17 and had experienced a personal spiritual journey long before her emergence as a public figure in Christian ministry.
Dikeh also disclosed that she once considered becoming a pastor, suggesting that her interest in Christian service dates back several years.
So I knew God at 17, she stated.
The actress further explained that the period before her public involvement in ministry was characterised by private spiritual experiences and what she described as divine instructions.
She stressed that her public declaration of faith was not the same as the moment she rededicated her life to God.
“When I came out was not the time when I rededicated my life to God,” she explained.
According to her, the experiences she had during her private spiritual journey helped prepare her for the responsibilities associated with her current public ministry.
Dikeh also recounted an encounter involving a reverend who reportedly visited her fellowship and witnessed what she described as healings, miracles and prophecies.
Although she did not provide further details about the encounter during the reported interview, she presented the experience as part of her spiritual journey and development.
Dikeh’s comments come amid increasing public attention surrounding her transition from Nollywood entertainment into Christian ministry.
The actress has become more vocal about her Christian faith, sharing religious messages, personal testimonies and spiritual experiences with her followers.
In August 2026, she launched the New Wine Prophetic Ministry in Abuja, further establishing her public involvement in religious activities.
Her journey has generated conversations among social media users and Christian audiences, particularly regarding her transformation, spiritual calling and decision to embrace public ministry.
By clarifying that her relationship with God began at 17, Dikeh appears keen to distinguish her longstanding personal faith from her more recent public activities as an evangelist.
Her account adds another dimension to discussions surrounding the intersection of celebrity, personal transformation and Christian ministry in Nigeria.
