Sowore Released After Brief Arrest At Lagos Int’l Airport

LAGOS: Popular activist and former presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement was detain briefly and later released at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday immediately after his return to Nigeria.

According to reliable source, This happemed as members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists gathered at the airport in anticipation of his arrival.
The former presidential aspirant in the 2023 general election had been away in the United States with his family.

Sowore traveled to the united state after mobilizing for the nation wide #endbadgovernance protest Sowore disclosed that he was detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service and that his passport was seized as soon as he arrived at the airport from United State of America

He stated that no reason was given for his detainment, and officials told him they were acting on instructions from higher authorities, needing to call Abuja for further direction on the matter. He was later confirmed his release via his X handle, stating, “I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me. #RevolutionNow.”

Popular Online news platform, rapidospace News learnt on Sunday that following Sowore’s detention by the Immigration Service at the airport over a watchlist of the secret police, Department of State Service (DSS), it seized his passport and contacted the DSS for further directives.

Members of the Take It Back Movement and other activists had early this morning besieged the international airport to await the activist’s return to the country.
His flight left the Washington Dulles International Airport at 6.14 EDT for Nigeria and arrived in Lagos at around 9.43 WAT.

It was also learnt from a report On Thursday, September 12, 2024, that a DSS memo ordering the arrest of the convener of Sowore upon his arrival in Nigeria had leaked.

Following the report, Sowore lambasted the DSS for issuing a directive for his arrest on his arrival in Nigeria, disclosing that his intention was to return to the country ‘very soon’.
