GBOKO: The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has married Queen Zaynab Otiti-Obanor, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
The development was confirmed by members of the Dajoh family of Benue State, who expressed joy over the union and officially welcomed Queen Zaynab into the family. A Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh described the marriage as a moment of celebration for the family and extended appreciation to supporters of the SGF.
In the message, the family welcomed Queen Zaynab to Benue State, popularly known as the Food Basket of the Nation, as well as to Mbakor, regarded as the traditional seat of leadership of the Tiv nation. The post also described her as the uncommon wife of Senator Akume and warmly welcomed her into the Dajoh family.
We join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency Senator George Akume, in welcoming his wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family, the statement read, while urging continued support for the SGF.
Akume’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, later confirmed the marriage in a phone conversation with Punch newspaper. However, he clarified that contrary to widespread reports, the wedding did not take place on Christmas Eve, December 24.
According to Odunuga, the marriage is not recent and has been in existence for over a year. He explained that public speculation arose after the couple appeared together at a Christmas event in Gboko, Benue State, which led many to assume the marriage had just been contracted.
I can confirm the marriage. However, it is not true that it was consummated on Christmas Eve. The marriage is over a year old, Odunuga stated.
Queen Zaynab, formerly known as Olori Wuraola, was previously married to the Ooni of Ife. That marriage, which attracted significant public attention at the time, ended after about 17 months. Reports indicate that Queen Zaynab has been married four times in total.
The marriage between Senator Akume, a former Benue State governor and serving SGF, and Queen Zaynab has continued to generate widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed opinions about the union.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Senator Akume nor Queen Zaynab has made a personal public statement regarding the marriage.
