AKURE: Four suspected bandits have been arrested around Akure Airport in Ondo State following a joint security operation. According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the suspects were apprehended after a distress alert reported suspicious movements behind the airport perimeter near the Eleyewo community.
Security operatives including aviation security personnel, the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Amotekun, and local vigilantes quickly launched a coordinated search operation. While some individuals attempted to flee, four suspects were successfully arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Authorities say the incident highlights the need for stronger airport perimeter security, adding that the Federal Government has already begun upgrading fencing and security infrastructure across airports nationwide to prevent unlawful access and other threats.
FAAN has also reassured travellers and nearby communities that efforts are ongoing to maintain the safety and security of all airport facilities in the country.
