LAGOS: The Lagos State Police Command anti-bomb squad has foiled an Improvised Explosive Device attack in the Ikeja area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CP Hundeyin, disclosed this on Wednesday.
A vigilant police officer reported a suspicious white Corolla car parked near the gate of PMF 23 Barracks, with a young man dropping a bag by the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit fence before he zoomed off.”
“Based on the report, a team of EOD-CBRN personnel was quickly mobilised to the scene to identify the object and render it safe if confirmed to be an IED.
Hundeyin said the area was immediately cordoned off while the IED experts were deployed to the spot.

Upon arrival, the object was discovered to be an IED, and the area was subsequently cordoned off.
Standard operating procedures were adopted, and the IED was rendered safe and taken to a safe distance for detonation,”
Hundeyin however assured the public that the area was calm afterward
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
CP Hundeyin said that at about 4.00 p.m. on Wednesday, a police officer reported the attempted attack at the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) base, at Ikeja, Lagos.
“The officer said that a young man came down from the car and carefully dropped a bag by the fence of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit office, returned to the vehicle and zoomed off
“Based on the report, a team of EOD-CBRN from the base was quickly mobilised to the scene to identify the object and render same safe if confirmed to be IED.
“On arrival, it was discovered to be IED. Subsequently, the area was cordoned off, the adopted IED rendered safe and taken to a distance for detonation accordingly.
“Meanwhile, the residual of the IED was collected for further analysis and investigation,” he said.
Hundeyin, however, assured residents of Lagos that all area was calm.
