Senator Dino Meleye, the 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dino Melaye has allenged that an end has come for the PDP in the political space of Nigeria
He claimed that the party has been commercialised and privatised by some individualsIn a post via his X handle on Saturday, the former Kogi West Senator accused the acting PDP national chairman, Iliya Damagum, the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the national organising secretary, Umar Bature, of destroying the party.
He wrote, “End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. Dino said PDP is now once upon a time.”
Dino Melaye’s reaction follows the accusation made against Damagum and Anyanwu by lawmakers from the PDP in the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers claimed that the party’s officials had intentions to weaken the PDP by offering legal backing for former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who had left.
They alleged that the two had been trying remove Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara from office through impeachment.
Ikenga Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives representative for Ideato Federal Constituency and spokesperson, listed an array of events that he believed were deliberate efforts by Damagum and Anyanwu to bring down the PDP.
Damagum, however, responded by warning that no one would frighten him into relinquishing his position.
He responded on Thursday in Abuja at the PDP National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees’ inauguration meeting
According to him, those calling for his resignation were merely enhancing his popularity as against destroying it.
