PDP Crisis: Wike Demands PDP Must Not Field Presidential Candidate in 2027 — Umar Sani

ABUJA: Former Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex–Vice President Namadi Sambo, Umar Sani, has revealed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, issued a major condition to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a prerequisite for peace in the party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Monday, Sani said Wike insisted that the PDP must not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, warning that if the party refused, he would fight to the finish.

Sani explained that the party leadership opted to end the prolonged internal battle, which eventually led to the expulsion of Wike and ten others during the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan.

Wike gave the PDP a condition that we are not going to field a presidential candidate in 2027. He said that is the only condition he will have.

All this is a fight to finish. We cannot wait for a fight to finish; we have to end the fight, Sani stated.

Despite their expulsion, Wike and his loyalists have called for an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The PDP had on Saturday expelled Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and eight other members aligned with the former Rivers State governor. Their expulsion was announced during the party’s National Elective Convention in Ibadan.

However, in a notice issued on Monday, the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, summoned an emergency meeting at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja barely 48 hours after the group was expelled.
