Ondo Governor Approves 1,000 Teacher Recruitment, Upgrades Rufus Giwa Polytechnic top University

AKURE: Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has authorized the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school teachers in the state. In addition, he is finalizing the hiring of 1,000 teachers for primary schools.

A statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Monday, confirmed that the approval followed the completion of the recruitment process by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

The commission had screened thousands of applicants last year to fill teaching positions across the state.

The statement further noted that successful candidates would begin the documentation process immediately.

Last year, the governor approved the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school teachers, marking the commencement of the hiring process by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

While the final list of secondary school teachers was approved on Friday, the list for primary school teachers is currently being finalized.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed concern over the shortage of teaching staff in public schools, particularly in rural areas, which prompted his directive to base the recruitment process on the specific needs of these understaffed schools across the state.

In addition, the governor recently approved N633 million for the registration of students for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) of the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

He also approved the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo to the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Owo.
