Reflecting on the institutionโs history, Ikechebelu noted that UNIZIK originally started as a state university before becoming a federal institution.
He also acknowledged the challenges the university faced in the previous year but credited President Bola Tinubu’s leadership for bringing stability to the institution.
He emphasized that UNIZIK is known for its commitment to excellence, focusing on academic, infrastructural, and administrative achievements.
Weโve worked hard to create an environment that supports the success of both staff and students. Since I assumed office, there has been a renewed focus on productivity, which has led to positive changes across the university,” Ikechebelu said.
He also addressed the issue of security, noting that the university has made significant strides in curbing vandalism and other challenges. With the help of internal security measures and digitalization of various processes, the university has improved the campus environment and operations. UNIZIK is back to its prime,” he added.
Ikechebelu also discussed the financial challenges faced by the university, particularly with electricity bills, which can range from N80 million to N100 million monthly due to the universityโs classification under Band A.
He noted that the school has partnered with service providers to manage this cost more effectively. Despite the challenges, he emphasized the ongoing development of various construction projects on campus.
The honorary degree recipients, he explained, were selected for their exceptional track records and the positive impact they have had both on the university and society
