Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are set for crucial talks over the potential transfer of French winger Bradley Barcola as the Premier League club intensifies efforts to sign the attacker before the summer transfer window closes.
According to a report by David Ornstein, representatives of Liverpool and PSG are meeting on Tuesday, August 25, to discuss a possible deal for the 23-year-old France international.
Barcola has emerged as Liverpool’s priority attacking target, with the Reds keen to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline. The forward is reportedly determined to leave PSG and has indicated his preference for a move to Anfield.
However, negotiations could prove difficult because of the significant difference between the two clubs’ valuations of the player.
PSG are understood to value Barcola at around £145 million, while Liverpool are unwilling to match that figure. The English champions would reportedly prefer to negotiate a transfer closer to £100 million.
With Barcola having less than two years remaining on his current PSG contract, Liverpool could see an opportunity to negotiate a more favourable price, although the French champions remain under no immediate pressure to sell.
Liverpool are not the only major European club to have shown interest in Barcola this summer.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal have also monitored the France international, who has continued to attract attention with his pace, technical ability and versatility in attack.
Bayern, however, have reportedly completed their major transfer business for the summer, making a move for Barcola increasingly unlikely.
Arsenal also admire the player but are understood to be unwilling to meet PSG’s asking price, leaving Liverpool in a potentially stronger position in the race.
The upcoming meeting between Liverpool and PSG could therefore prove decisive in determining whether negotiations progress towards an agreement or whether Barcola remains in Paris.
For Liverpool, the priority will be finding a compromise on the transfer fee while convincing PSG to part with one of their most highly rated attacking players.
Barcola’s reported desire to join Liverpool could also become an important factor as both clubs attempt to reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.
