AJAOKUTA: A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot his girlfriend, identified as Woman Corporal Grace, dead before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths have yet to be independently verified.
According to a source cited by our reporters, the officer, identified as Corporal Amos, had resumed night-duty station guard at about 6 p.m. but allegedly left his duty post hours later and went to Grace’s quarters.
The source claimed that Amos shot Grace several times before turning the weapon on himself.
Grace reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg, according to the account.
The source alleged that the two junior police officers had been in a relationship for several years but began experiencing trust issues and accusations of infidelity in recent months.
Their disagreements reportedly escalated into physical altercations and threats, prompting their detention at one point by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO).
The DCO was said to have advised the officers to end the relationship to prevent further conflict.
Recounting the incident, the source told Reporters (not Rapidospace News) that the corporal allegedly abandoned his duty post and went to Grace’s quarters, where the fatal shooting occurred.
The reported account has not been independently corroborated, and the alleged motive remains unconfirmed by the authorities.
As of the time of this report, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident or providing details of the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths.
Further information, including the official confirmation of the identities of the deceased, the recovery of the firearm and the findings of any investigation, remains unavailable.
The incident raises serious concerns about the reported use of a service firearm and the circumstances preceding the tragedy.
