In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry confirmed that the property was handed over by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
According to Ministry spokesperson Salisu Haiba, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, commended the EFCC for its continued efforts in asset recovery and the fight against corruption.
The Ministry has taken delivery of the 753-unit Abuja housing estate previously owned by the former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and recovered by the EFCC, the statement read.
This handover represents a significant step in our collective effort to ensure that recovered assets are repurposed for the direct benefit of the Nigerian people.

This estate is a prime example of how such assets can be used productively,” Dangiwa noted.
He also announced plans for a joint familiarization tour of the estate by the Ministry and the EFCC to evaluate its current condition.
“We will conduct detailed integrity and structural assessments of all buildings and infrastructure to ensure they meet safety and habitation standards, he said.
Dangiwa further explained that the housing units would be made available for both public purchase and government use. The public sale will follow a transparent and competitive process, including a nationwide advertisement and applications through the Renewed Hope Portal.
EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, emphasized the symbolic and practical importance of the handover as a demonstration of the government’s anti-corruption stance.
“It’s essential to show Nigerians that recovered proceeds of crime will be managed transparently. We must ensure that looted assets are not looted again,” Olukoyede stated.
