Port- Harcourt, Rivers State: In port-harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, the political tension and differences between the Rivers state Governor, Sim Fubara and the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly members continue yesterday as the faction shut down all expenditures of the Rivers State government until Governor Simrinalayi Fubara presents his budget before the House
This follows a seven-day ultimatum the lawmakers gave the governor to present his budget before the House.
The Leader of the House Major Jack raised the motion informing the House about the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to present the 2024 budget before the House.
According to Jack, he said the governor was allowed till the end of the day to re-present the year’s budget to the legislature as the law demands and at which point the action was taken.
After deliberation, the House voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account thus preventing Governor Fubara’s Administration from spending any money on behalf of the state.
Following a break, the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Hon Martins Amaewhule gave the directive during their first meeting.
A few months ago, Governor Fubara had signed the 2024 estimated budget approved and passed into law by his recognized House of Assembly faction led by Hon Edison Ehie (now the chief of staff) into law and the Governor has since been running the affairs of governance in the oil rich state.
