Akwa Ibom Governor, Eno Appoint Daughter As Acting First Lady

AKWA IBOM: The Governor of Ahwa ibom state, Dr Eno has been praised by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu for the decision to appoint his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki to take over the role of First Lady of Akwa Ibom State following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno

The first lady on a condolence visit to Governor Eno family in Uyo on Friday, expressed her support for Helen Eno Obareki’s appointment, noting that it reflects practices seen in the United States and is a thoughtful way to sustain the late Patience Eno’s legacy, particularly through her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).

Hajia Nana Shettima, the vice president’s wife, together with the ladies of state governors and the National Assembly’s presiding officers joined Senator Tinubu on the condolence visit.

In his speech, Governor Umo Eno talked about his close relationship with his late wife. She was 19 when we were married, and I was 22. She was a true gift from God, a source of consolation and support, so I called her Oluwa-Kemi, he said.

Together, we overcame several obstacles and went through both wins and defeats. For me, her dying indicates an irreplaceable loss. She was my greatest critic as well as my strongest ally and the epitome of the spiritually upright lady. It will be felt for the remaining part of my life.

In her response, Senator Tinubu acknowledged Pastor Patience Eno’s support for her own national pet project as well as her dedication to her husband’s ARISE governance agenda. Politics aside, we are all Nigerians, and one of the things i thank God for is the opportunity to show love and care when we meet people.

I want to thank God for Patience’s life, though short, she completed her race. May God comfort you, your family, and your children. I will always be here for you,” she assured the governor.

It is not an easy task ahead, Governor Eno said, introducing his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the First Lady’s replacement. Nonetheless, I give our daughter Helen the responsibility of carrying on my late wife’s job and maintaining the Office of the First Lady. She will collaborate closely with the Commissioner of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare as well as the Deputy Governor.

The governor promised to continue the initiatives started by the office of the First Lady and expressed his complete faith in his daughter’s capacity to uphold the principles and vision of her late mother.

Senator Tinubu turned to face Helen and comforted her, saying, Helen, your mom didn’t send you to me for nothing, and it’s a blessing that Senator Tinubu turned to face Helen and wished her well, saying, “Your mom brought you to me for a reason, and it’s a blessing that your mom’s colleagues and the Vice President’s wife are here to support you.”

I am confident that God will lead you since I know you well. He will give you excellent health and you will accomplish much more than your mother did.

In response to reports that he had taken a second wife, Governor Eno made light of the circumstance when Senate President Godswill Akpabio paid him a separate condolence visit. He playfully said, I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon, saying he lacked the funds to pay a second bride price.

He made it clear that there would be no one to take over for his late wife. Her legacy will live in my heart.

She initiated several projects, and that’s why I introduced our daughter, Helen, to the First Lady. She will step in to coordinate the work, ensuring that the Office of the First Lady continues the programs my wife started.
