WARRI: A young woman identified as Brenda has died under troubling circumstances in Warri, Delta State, after spending the night with a man she met on TikTok. The incident has reignited public concerns over the dangers of online relationships and safety in private meetups.
Sources reports Brenda had been in contact for several days with a TikTok user known as Emmypounds, after they connected on the platform. Following three days of online communication, she reportedly agreed to visit him at his residence on Jakpa Road in Warri.
Brenda’s family became alarmed when she could no longer be reached by phone. A close friend, who had access to her alternate device, checked her TikTok messages and discovered her last known interaction had been with Emmypounds.
When confronted, Emmypounds reportedly told the family that Brenda had fallen ill and had been taken to a nearby hospital. Upon arrival, relatives found her in critical condition—unconscious, wearing adult diapers, and covered in visible bruises. She was unable to speak and later died without providing any statement about what transpired.
The incident has raised suspicions of foul play, but police say there’s currently no evidence pointing to murder.
Delta State Police spokesperson, Edafe Bright, confirmed the matter to SaharaReporters on Tuesday. According to him, preliminary investigations suggest that generator fumes may have been responsible for Brenda’s death. It’s not a murder case at this point,” Edafe said.
There was a generator running in the house, and it’s suspected that the fumes led to the lady’s death. The boy narrowly escaped and was only taken into custody after recovering.”
Emmypounds remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Brenda has been buried, and her family is still seeking answers regarding the bruises found on her body, with calls for a deeper investigation to rule out any possible foul play.
