We Will Execute Court Orders On LG Election — Rivers Police Spokesperson Declare

RIVERS STATE: The Rivers State Police Command has declare that the police will execute court orders on the Forth coming local government elections schedule to hold on Saturday the 5th of October, in the state

The spoke person of the Nigeria Police, River state Command, SP Grace Iringe-koko who made a statement on the widely debate election, Titled: Rivers state Local government Elections proposed to hold on the 5th of October. 

The police acknowledged receiving a restraining order that barred them from providing security for the LGA election in their statement. The command said that it is aware of the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision on September 30, 2024, prohibiting the Force from taking part in the election.

The message went on to say that the verdict dated September 30th is final, as directed by the Force Legal Department. The opposition PDP’s protest march, in which they demanded that the court decisions be followed, was also included in the statement.

In the statement, the police confirmed being in receipt of a restraining order preventing them from providing security during the LGA elections.

In view of recent rulings by courts, the Nigeria Police Force wishes to notify all law-abiding residents and interested parties in Rivers State of the forthcoming Local Government Election.

The Nigeria Police Force seeks to inform all law-abiding citizens and stakeholders in Rivers State about the upcoming Local Government Election, particularly in light of recent court rulings.

On July 19, 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a restraining order preventing the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from providing security during the Local Government Election.

Additionally, on September 30, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a judgment that again prohibited the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies from participating in the Local Government Election.

Given these circumstances, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised by the Force Legal Department that the ruling from the Federal High Court on September 30, 2024, takes precedence.

The Nigeria Police Force is committed to maintaining law and order and will not stand idle in the face of potential disturbances. Necessary actions will be taken by police to execute the court’s orders.

All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders have been directed to ensure full compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court.

In the midst of the recent protests, the opposition party called for adherence to the court orders and expressed their determination to prevent any disregard for the law. Considering the preceding, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised to fully comply to the ruling

In view of the above, the Nigeria Police Force has been advised by the Force Legal Department to comply with the judgment of the Federal High Court dated September 30, 2024, which bars the Nigeria Police from allowing, participating in, providing security for, or taking part in the Rivers State Local Government Election on October 5, 2024.

We also kindly request that all other security services abide by the ruling of the Federal High Court.

The Nigeria Police Force requests that everyone maintain peace and order and work with law enforcement to protect the rule of law during this trying period in light of the recent developments
