US Lawmaker Accuses USAID of Misappropriating Taxpayer Money for Terrorist and Boko haram

WASHINGTON D C: A U.S. lawmaker, Scott Perry, has accused the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) of indirectly funding terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda. Perry, a Republican from Pennsylvania, made these claims during a hearing on Thursday of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE), as reported by The Economist.

The session, titled “The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud “ centered on concerns over the misuse of taxpayer funds. Perry criticized the agency’s financial activities, stating,  Your money, $697 million annually, plus shipments of cash funds to Madrasas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, ISIS Khorasan, and terrorist training camps. That’s what it’s funding.

The lawmaker further pointed to USAID’s reported funding of $136 million for constructing 120 schools in Pakistan, claiming there was no evidence to support the completion of these schools. He argued, You are funding terrorism through USAID, and it’s not just Afghanistanit’s Pakistan, right next door.

Perry detailed how USAID had allocated $840 million in the past 20 years to Pakistan’s education programs, which included the $136 million for the schools. He emphasized the lack of accountability, stating, There’s zero evidence these schools were built. The Inspector General can’t even inspect them.

He also criticized the agency for spending an additional $20 million to create educational TV programs for children who couldn’t attend physical schools, stating, They can’t attend because the schools don’t exist. You paid for it, and someone else took the money. You are funding terrorism. This has to end.
