U.S. Trade Representative Criticizes Nigeria’s Import Ban on 25 Goods

USA: On Monday, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) criticized Nigeria’s import ban on 25 categories of goods, arguing that the restrictions hinder market access for American exporters.

This criticism follows President Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods entering the U.S., with Nigeria facing a 14 percent import duty.

The USTR highlighted the negative impact of Nigeria’s import ban on several sectors, particularly agriculture, pharmaceuticals, beverages, and consumer goods.

Items affected by the ban include beef, pork, poultry, fruit juices, medicaments, and alcoholic beverages, which the U.S. considers significant trade barriers.

The USTR stated that these limitations reduce export opportunities for U.S. businesses and result in lost revenue. The agency noted that Nigeria’s import ban on 25 product categories, including agricultural goods, pharmaceuticals, and beverages, directly impacts U.S. exporters.
