LAGOS: A devastating fire at a spare parts market in the Idumota area of Lagos State destroyed properties worth millions of naira, although no casualties or injuries were reported.
The fire, which occurred on Friday night, affected multiple buildings used as shops for selling car spare parts. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded promptly to distress calls received at 10:20 PM.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that emergency teams from Lekki, Cappa, and the Command and Control Centre in Ikeja were dispatched to the scene, arriving by 10:55 PM. Upon arrival, they found several buildings engulfed in flames.
While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, preliminary reports indicated significant property damage, with goods worth hundreds of millions of naira destroyed in the blaze.

Oke-Osanyintolu reported that LASEMA’s Shark Response Team, Fire Unit, and Tiger Response Team, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Federal Fire Service, worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring structures. Law enforcement agencies were also on hand to manage crowds and maintain safety at the scene.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities. Efforts to extinguish remaining flames and salvage valuable property are ongoing, with recovery operations still underway.
