Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi Loses Father in Fatal Accident

Umunede community in Ika Northeast Local Government Area of Delta State has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of Mr. Sunday Ndidi, father of Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi.

The retired army officer reportedly died on Tuesday morning at about 9:00 a.m. in a fatal motor accident at the GLO Junction along the Benin–Asaba Expressway in Umunede Delta state.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that Mr. Ndidi had parked his Toyota Camry at the GLO Junction, Umunede and was attempting to cross the busy expressway when a Toyota Sienna vehicle, said to be speeding, knocked him down.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, but medical personnel later confirmed him dead.

The news of his sudden demise sent shockwaves across the Umunede and ika community, as family members, friends and sympathizers trooped to his residence on Market Street (now Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa road), Ile Quarters, Umunede, to commiserate with the bereaved family.

The late Mr. Sunday Ndidi, fondly known as Polly, was described by residents as a disciplined, humble and peace-loving man who served Nigeria faithfully during his years in the Nigerian Army before retiring.

Community members expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called on motorists to exercise greater caution, especially along the Benin–Asaba Expressway, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent times.

As condolences continue to pour in from far and near, prayers have been offered for the repose of his soul and for God to grant the Ndidi family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

May the soul of Mr. Sunday Ndidi rest in perfect peace.
